Life Lately: Checking In, Catching Up, and Looking Ahead

The past few weeks have felt especially full, but in the best way.

Between visiting our interior design projects around Austin, speaking at a few industry events, and making another quick trip to Los Angeles, I've been reminded just how much I love the variety that comes with this work. Every week has looked a little different, and each experience has left me feeling inspired in its own way.

I thought it would be fun to share a little glimpse into what life has looked like lately.

Visiting Our Austin Interior Design Projects

Lately, I've spent quite a bit of time visiting our projects across Austin.

These site visits are one of my favorite parts of the interior design process. Every time I walk through the front door, something has changed. Cabinetry has been installed, paint is on the walls, lighting is going in, or another thoughtful detail has been added that suddenly makes the entire home feel one step closer to completion.

While these moments aren't always the most glamorous, they're some of the most important. Much of our time on-site is spent walking through details with contractors, answering questions, solving problems before they happen, and thinking several steps ahead. It's this collaboration that helps create homes that feel intentional from the very beginning.

Our marketing team joined me for one of these afternoons, and it was fun having them capture a side of the business we don't always get to share. There's so much that happens behind the scenes before a finished project ever makes its way to Instagram or into a magazine.

Connecting with the Austin Design Community

One of the things I've been especially grateful for this year is the opportunity to connect with so many talented people in the design community.

Recently, I had the honor of speaking on an Austin Home panel centered around health and wellness in design. It felt especially meaningful because one of our own projects, Fitzhugh, was featured in the issue. Throughout the design process, we intentionally selected low-toxicity materials, thoughtful finishes, and healthier products to create a home that not only feels beautiful but also supports the well-being of the family who lives there.

Shortly after, I joined the team at Business of Home for a live panel discussing the realities of running an interior design business. We covered everything from attracting the right clients and qualifying inquiries to photography licensing, communicating pricing with clients, and building a profitable, sustainable design firm. These are conversations I always enjoy because they pull back the curtain on the business side of design, something that isn't often talked about as openly.

The panel was filmed and will be released soon, and I'll be sure to share it here once it's available. I've always loved opportunities like these because they're as much about learning as they are about sharing. Connecting with fellow designers, exchanging ideas, and having honest conversations about our industry always leaves me feeling inspired, and I'm grateful to be part of such a supportive design community.

Finding Inspiration in Los Angeles

A few days later, I found myself back in Los Angeles for an editor preview event with Scenario.

Events like these are always a highlight because they bring together editors, creators, and people across the design industry. It's a chance to introduce new audiences to Audrey Scheck Design, reconnect with familiar faces, and build relationships with brands and publications we admire.

This year, we partnered with Rumi Lane to create a custom activation where attendees designed their own tea towel to take home. Watching people get creative and engage with the brand in such a hands-on way was so much fun, and it made the event feel even more personal.

One of my favorite things about traveling, even if it's only for a couple of days, is how much inspiration comes from simply paying attention. Sometimes it's a beautifully designed space. Other times it's something much quieter. The way afternoon light filters into a room. An unexpected pairing of materials. A color palette I wouldn't have considered before. Or a long dinner spent around the table with dear friends.

Those are usually the moments that stay with me long after I return home. Inspiration has a funny way of showing up when you're not actively looking for it, and I've learned that paying attention to those little moments often influences my work in the most meaningful ways.

Looking Ahead

As much as I've enjoyed the travel and events, it's always nice coming back home and settling into the rhythm of our projects here in Austin.

We have several homes that are making so much progress right now, along with a few that are getting very close to being photographed. Watching months, and sometimes years, of planning finally come to life is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

There are also a few exciting things happening behind the scenes that I can't quite share yet, but trust me when I say they're worth the wait.

It's been a full season, and I'm feeling incredibly grateful for all of it. Thank you for following along and allowing me to share this journey with you. I can't wait to show you what's next.
