Fall has a way of inviting us to slow down and enjoy the simple comforts of home. It’s the season for layering warmth, adding rich tones and textures, and creating spaces that feel welcoming as the days grow cooler. With a few thoughtful updates, you can bring in the cozy, lived-in feeling of fall into your home without starting from scratch. Here, Audrey shares her favorite tips and tricks for styling a warm, inviting space this season.

Bring in Seasonal Florals

Fresh florals can feel just as at home in fall as they do in spring. The key is embracing rich tones, moody hues, and lots of texture whether through warm-colored blooms, dried stems, or even branches gathered from your own backyard. We especially love a faux magnolia leaf or other dark leafy stems like these this time of year. Pop them into a vintage vessel or a favorite ceramic vase to bring effortless charm and seasonal warmth to any corner of your home.

Layer Textures, Textiles, and Tones

Nothing captures the spirit of fall quite like layering. Start by trading summer's lightweight fabrics for chunky knits, and add pillows and throws in cozy fabrics like velvet or wool to bring depth to your sofa. Even something as simple as draping a textured throw over the arm of a chair instantly makes a space feel more inviting.

Color shifts makes just as much of a difference as texture. Swapping lighter hues for richer, moodier tones such as burgundy, chestnut, and earthy neutrals can completely transform the atmosphere of a room. Seasonal patterns like plaids and stripes are another easy way to shift your home into fall while adding visual interest.

By sticking to a cohesive palette, you create a look that feels intentional but never overly matched. With a few thoughtful layers, your home will emobdy the perfect balance of comfort, warmth, and elevated style.

Light the Candles

Few things set the mood quite like candlelight. We love pairing tall tapers with scattered votives to bring warmth and a subtle glow to a living space. This season, swap lighter candles for deeper, richer tones for an instant seasonal update. And my biggest tip? Light your wicks, even just briefly, to create that cozy lived-in feeling. Layer in a fall-inspired scent such as sandalwood, amber, or cedar, and your home suddenly feels grounded and seasonal. Bonus points if you have a cozy fireplace for added warmth and ambiance!

Add Layers of Decor

Fall is the season of layering, and that goes beyond textiles. Style shelves or tabletops with collected objects like ceramic vessels, wooden bowls, or vintage finds to add depth and personality. Natural materials such as stone, rattan, or raw wood keep your home feeling organic and grounded.

And don’t overlook the front porch. Nothing says fall quite like a pumpkin display, and we love mixing different colors, shapes, and sizes to keep things playful. Blend classic orange with creamy whites, soft greens, or even blush-toned pumpkins, then cluster them at varying heights for that effortlessly abundant look. Add potted mums or textured plants to bring in even more life and color. The result feels festive and welcoming, like a little invitation to step inside and get cozy.

3 Trends We Can Get Behind This Fall

Each season brings new design ideas, but these are three we love right now:

  • Earthy, saturated tones. Deep greens, rusts, and warm browns that make a space feel grounded.

  • Mixing old with new. Vintage finds paired with modern pieces create a collected look that feels authentic. (Round Top is a great place to find some vintage decor this fall, check out our guide to Round Top)

  • Natural textures everywhere. From woven baskets to raw wood and stone accents, organic materials are having their moment.

Create Gathering Moments

At its heart, fall is about togetherness. Whether you’re setting a beautiful table with seasonal touches or a bar moment for fall-inspired cocktails, think about how your home encourages connection. Styling for fall isn’t about chasing trends. It is about making your home feel warm, welcoming, and ready for the people who matter most.
