Lake Travis Interior Design: A Warm Family Home

Some homes instantly make you want to settle in and stay awhile. This Lake Travis custom home is one of them.
Designed for a busy family of six, every space was created to support the rhythms of everyday life while feeling warm, layered, and timeless. Throughout the home, custom millwork, natural materials, rich wood tones, and vintage-inspired details create a sense of comfort from the moment you walk through the door. Every room feels connected, balancing beauty and function in a way that supports how this family lives today while allowing the home to evolve alongside them.
From gathering around the fireplace and tackling homework after school to hosting overnight guests and creating bedrooms that will grow with each child, this home reflects what we love most about residential design: creating spaces that are every bit as livable as they are beautiful.
A Living Room Made for Gathering
The living room is the heart of the home and naturally draws everyone together. Anchored by a limestone fireplace and framed by exposed wood beams, the space feels welcoming without sacrificing character.
One of our favorite details is the bookcase tucked beside the fireplace, complete with a rolling library ladder that adds both function and charm while creating the perfect place to display well-loved books, collected pottery, and meaningful pieces gathered over time.
Linen upholstery, warm wood tones, leather seating, and layered textiles make the room feel relaxed enough for everyday living while still feeling refined. It's the kind of space that invites slow mornings with coffee, cozy evenings by the fire, and countless moments spent together as a family.
Spaces Designed Around Everyday Life
One of our favorite things about this Lake Travis home is how naturally it supports the day-to-day life of a family of six. Every room serves a purpose, but none of them feel overly practical or utilitarian. Instead, each space feels like a seamless extension of the home.

For this family, having a dedicated space for homework, studying, and creative projects was an important priority. Rather than designing a room that felt overly academic, we wanted it to feel like a natural extension of the home. A large custom desk provides generous storage for books and supplies, while expansive windows fill the space with natural light, creating an environment that feels calm, inspiring, and ready for whatever the day brings.
That same balance carries into the guest bedroom, which doubles as a hardworking home office throughout the week. Instead of dedicating an entire room to occasional visitors, this space easily transforms when friends and family come to stay. It's one of our favorite examples of how intentional design allows a home to adapt over time without compromising style.
We carried that same philosophy into the laundry room. We believe the hardest-working rooms in a home deserve just as much attention as the spaces where everyone gathers. Custom cabinetry, warm wood tones, woven textures, and timeless finishes turn everyday routines into something that feels a little more enjoyable while blending seamlessly with the rest of the home's design.
Bedrooms That Grow With the Family
The primary suite was designed as a quiet retreat where the homeowners can slow down and recharge. A softer color palette, layered textiles, and natural materials create a sense of calm while allowing the architectural details and custom millwork to take center stage. The result is a room that feels welcoming today and will continue to feel timeless for years to come.
Each of the children's bedrooms reflects a different season of life while sharing the same overall design philosophy: creating spaces that can evolve alongside the family.
For the oldest son, we wanted to create a room that felt a little more grown up without losing its sense of personality. Ceiling wallpaper adds interest in an unexpected way, bringing texture and character to the space while leaving the walls flexible enough to easily swap out artwork as his interests evolve. The result is a bedroom that feels refined enough to grow with him while still embracing the playfulness of childhood.

The younger boys' shared bunk room embraces a different kind of energy. Custom-built bunk beds maximize every square foot while giving each child a space of their own. One of our favorite details is the integrated storage at the end of the bunk beds creating the perfect spot for favorite books, treasured toys, and the little things kids like to keep close. It's a practical solution that keeps the room organized while making everyday routines a little easier. Designed with both childhood memories and longevity in mind, it's a space that's just as ready for bedtime stories and weekend sleepovers as it is for the years ahead.
A Lake Travis Home Designed for Real Life
What makes this home so special isn't any one room. It's the way every space works together to support this family's everyday life. From gathering in the living room and tackling after-school homework to welcoming overnight guests and designing bedrooms that will evolve alongside each child, every decision was made with longevity and livability in mind.
At Audrey Scheck Design, we believe the best homes aren't necessarily the most formal or the most perfectly styled. They're the ones that make everyday life feel easier while still feeling warm, layered, and full of character. This Lake Travis home is a reflection of that philosophy, blending timeless design, custom details, and practical solutions into a home this family will enjoy for many years to come.

The point about designing for a busy family of six without making the home feel sterile really stood out to me. It’s tricky to balance durability with warmth, but this project seems to prove that practical choices don’t have to sacrifice that relaxed, lived-in feel.
