East Austin Home Remodel : Transforming a Craftsman-Style Gem

Nestled in the heart of East Austin, this craftsman-style home stands as a testament to timeless design. This American craftsman-style home underwent a transforming remodel to enhance its original character while incorporating new details to fit the homeowner’s lifestyle. Audrey Scheck Design thoughtfully remodeled the kitchen, guest bathroom, and primary bathroom, preserving as many original features as possible while enhancing the functionality and beauty of the home.

kitchen remodel with sage green cabinets and eat-in kitchen

Spacious Countertop Kitchen Dining

In the kitchen, one of our main objectives was to create more space for countertop dining. To accomplish this, we connected the island to the adjacent wall of cabinets, which not only expanded the countertop area but also increased the kitchen cabinet storage.

To further enhance functionality, we incorporated an appliance garage with electrical outlets, ensuring the countertop remains clear even when appliances are in use.

Custom Kitchen Cabinets in Sage Green

The eat-in kitchen features a nature-inspired color palette, highlighted by custom designed cabinets and finished with Sherwin Williams sage green paint to complement the warm wood and brass accents. This tranquil shade of sage green paint is adaptable and looks great anywhere inside and outside of the home.

We partnered with local Austin millworkers to craft a custom hand-made white oak vent hood, adding a textural element to the kitchen design. To further enhance the space, we introduced mixed lighting. Mixed lighting in a kitchen involves the combination of ambient, task, and accent lighting to enhance both functionality and style.

As a full service remodel and interior design company we curated ceramics, decor, and boucle kitchen bar stools. Doing so created an inviting, cozy atmosphere that feels lived-in and welcoming.

Transforming the Guest Bathroom with Zellige Tile

In the guest bathroom, the visual footprint was expanded by removing the linen closet and replacing the old shower-tub combo. The previously unused space to the left of the shower was transformed into a practical storage area including a custom bathroom cabinet with floating shelves, giving the room a more intentional feel. Our favorite feature is the Zellige tile, installed in a basket weave pattern with variegated shades of green and turquoise, which beautifully highlights the natural color variations of each tile.

Blending Modern and Classic in the Primary Bathroom

In the primary shower, we opted for Zellige tile in a neutral color palette that beautifully complements the handmade terracotta floor tiles. To retain the home’s craftsmen style character and charm, we preserved the original hardwood flooring while adding a custom floating bathroom vanity, blending a modern element with timeless design.

Paint Color Palette

Choosing the right paint colors can completely transform a space, and in this East Austin home remodel, we carefully selected shades of paint that would enhance the craftsmen-style home’s character. Here’s a breakdown of the paint colors used in different areas of the house:

Kitchen

The custom kitchen cabinets are painted in Green Earth by Sherwin Williams, a soft, nature-inspired shade that perfectly complements the warm wood and brass accents throughout the kitchen.

Guest Bathroom

For the guest bathroom walls, we opted for Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. This crisp, clean white adds brightness to the room while allowing the beautiful Zellige tile to take center stage.

Primary Bathroom

We continued with Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore in the primary bathroom, creating a cohesive and serene atmosphere that ties in beautifully with the neutral tones of the Zellige tile and terracotta flooring.
